Teddy Bear Fun Run - May 11, 2019

Matteus is COOL

Matteus was born February 20, 2014 after and difficult labour & delivery. When he arrived, the cord was wrapped around his neck twice, very tightly. He was rushed to the NICU where it was discovered he suffered from lack of oxygen to the brain resulting in mild-moderate brain damage. He was then transfered to the Stollery Children's Hospital where he would receive three days of Cooling Therapy. A procedure where his body tempature was slowly lowered three degrees for three days. At this tempature, the metabolic rate slows, allowing any damaged cells to repair themselves! Pretty COOL. During our time at the Stollery, we learned that cooling therapy is relatively new and not offered across Canada yet. We feel VERY fortunate to have such an amazing hospital that offers progressive treatments with amazing nurses and doctors.

Each year, as a family, we try to give back to the Stollery in some way. This year we have chosen to participate in Teddy Bear Run. We hope you will support our efforts in giving back to such an amazing hospital.
